CMHS Educators Rising Attends National Conference in Washington, D.C.
Educators Rising is a state and national competition club for high school students who are on the pathway to pursue a career in education. The state contacted our chapter requesting five Crete-Monee students to participate as delegates at the National Educator Rising Conference in Washington, D.C., from June 29th through July 2nd. Our students attended a special session during this national conference where they listened and voted on issues impacting future educators. This was an excellent opportunity and an honor to be selected. It was also the first and only time that the State of Illinois requested delegates, and they selected our chapter to represent Illinois.
This year’s conference theme was “Discovering your Potential,” allowing students to connect, learn, and network with other members nationwide. The Educators Rising National Conference also hosts performance-based national competitions where aspiring educators demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and educational leadership. Joshua Muehlberg, a Crete-Monee High School 2024 graduate, did just that. He competed and presented his experience of “I’ve got a moment,” which explained how he was teaching summer school and a student who didn’t know his multiplication facts. Muehlberg took the time during small group activities to work with this student one-on-one on these skills. At the end of summer school, the student could multiply large digits. This moment was such a proud experience for Muehlberg that not only was the student able to achieve this goal, but he also assisted in the process.
Congratulations to Kaycee Berkley, Joshua Muehlberg, Christal Williams, Alaila Spears, Erin Ababio-Twi, Erick Guerrero, and Valeria Perez, our young and inspiring future educators who were chosen to attend. Thank you to staff members Lamont Holifield, Sarah Valerio, and Kevin Lentz, who attended for support.
