2020 SUMMER SCHOOL AT CMHS (FREE!)


PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Crete-Monee High School Summer School Program offers a variety of courses and programs.  The summer school program is divided into two sessions generally. Each full-length session is equivalent to a semester and meets the hourly requirement to earn course credit.  All classes will meet virtually, this year, and will be held Monday-Thursday, please see the course for a specific time.    
Program Dates Session I   Monday, June 8, 2020-Thursday, June 25, 2020
Session II Monday, July 6 – Thursday, July 23, 2019

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION

Admission to summer school is strictly for CMHS students, with the exception of in-district private school students interested in taking drivers education.  

Registration Dates Registration begins April 6, 2020 Registration Deadline - June 2, 2020

SPACE IS LIMITED AND STUDENTS WILL BE ENROLLED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS.  There is no guarantee that all students needing credit will be enrolled in the program. To complete the form electronically follow these steps- open the PDF document. There will be a pencil icon in the upper right corner. Click that, it opens annotation tools, that will allow you to draw with your mouse with the pen option selected.  Circle or write in the course you are taking, both the student and parent must sign. Once you have signed the document, you will need to click the download button in the upper right corner (down arrow with the line underneath) and then attach the new version to an email to be sent back to your assigned counselor.
TUITION

In-district students, currently attending CMHS, will not be charged tuition.  Summer programs for all CMHS students are FREE, with the exception of drivers education, which has a fee of $150 for behind the wheel for CMHS students and $200 for in-district private school students.  CMHS students must pay for drivers education by June 7th.  Payments can be made by going to cm201u.org, go to the for parents tab,  pay fees online, log into e-funds, pay for student fees and will be listed as summer school drivers education. In district private school students can pay via credit card.  Please leave a message for Mrs. Lucas at 708-367-8349 or [email protected] and she will call back to get CC information.

COURSE CANCELLATION If enrollment numbers are too low to support the operating costs, courses will be canceled and you will be notified via phone call by our summer school coordinator. 

Parent FAQ 


1) How do I know if my child needs summer school? 

The CMHS Summer School program covers different student needs. 
1. Students who received a grade of “Incomplete” in any course(s) during Remote Learning are expected to attend to complete their coursework and receive a letter grade for 2nd Semester course(s). 2. Students in need of retrieving credits for previously failed courses should attend summer school. 3. Students who qualify for the classroom portion of Drivers’ Education may attend. 4. Incoming 9th grade students may attend CMHS courses designed for students who need math support in preparation for Algebra I and for those students who will be enrolling in Advanced Placement courses. 5. Students enrolled in NJROTC are encouraged to enroll. 

2) How do I register my child for summer school?

For students receiving any incomplete grades for Semester 2, parents may complete the registration form that is linked to the letter sent home about incomplete grades and summer school. 
All other students should complete the registration form contained in the summer school packet. To complete this form electronically follow these steps: 

1. Open the PDF document
2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on the pencil icon. This will allow you to use your mouse to complete the information. with your mouse with the pen option selected.
3. Circle or write in the course you are taking.
4. Both the student and parent must sign the form.
5. Once signed, click the download button in the upper right corner (down arrow with the line underneath).
6. Save the completed registration form.
7. Attach the form to an email to be sent back to your assigned counselor.

3) What is the fee for summer school this year?

4) What are the dates for summer school this year?

Session 1: June 8-25 Session 2: July 6 – July 23 

5) Does my child have to attend both summer school sessions?

All students needing to complete coursework for incomplete grades will attend Session 1. Please see your student’s counselor for a more detailed answer to this question. Please see the counselor list in FAQ #2 to identify your student’s counselor. 

6) What is the attendance policy for remote learning during summer school?

Absences: To receive credit, students are expected to attend each day of the program. Due to the short time period for instruction, students may only miss 1 day and still have the required number of hours to meet credit requirements. Any absences beyond 1 day will result in dismissal from the program. An absence is considered arrival anytime after the start time of the course. 
Tardies: Students are expected to be on time each morning. Due to the short time period for instruction, students who are tardy will miss valuable learning time. A student is considered tardy if they arrive anytime after the start time for their class up to 15 minutes late. Four tardies will be considered as one absence. Students who accumulate more than four tardies will be dismissed from the program. 

7) What classes will be offered this year?

Math Credit Recovery Instructional English Credit Recovery PE - 9th & 10th grade PE - 11th & 12th grade Plato Credit Recovery Driver’s Education NJROTC ALEKS Jump Start Intro to Advanced Placement (AP)

8) How many credits will my child receive for summer school?

A student MAY receive up to 0.5 credits for each session successfully completed. 

9) What is the grading policy?

Please refer to the teacher’s syllabus for the course being offered. 

10) What technology will my child need to be successful in summer school? 

All classes will meet virtually this year and will be held Monday-Thursday, please see the course for a specific time. Students will need their school-issued Chromebooks, internet service, and access to Google Apps, which are provided free to CM201u families. The main Google Apps that each student will need are Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Mail, and Google Meet.
